Back to OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital

On 3/7/2023, Claire, Katie, Hailey and Ellie experienced a special day they had eagerly awaited for a long time. Prior to the pandemic, these volunteers had dedicated their time to playing music for children at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, bringing joy and happiness to the young patients and their families.

However, the pandemic has affected the world in ways we could never have imagined. One of the sectors that have been hit the hardest is healthcare, with hospitals struggling to cope with the overwhelming number of patients. Therefore, events were canceled, and volunteers were unable to visit

The volunteers longed to be back at the hospital, to bring a little bit of light into the lives of these courageous little ones. The pandemic had taken so much away from everyone, but this opportunity to return to the hospital and make a difference meant everything to them. They were grateful to OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital for providing them with the chance to come back and play for the medical team, the patients, and their families once again.

Their performance that day was filled with hope and joy, and they were moved by the impact their music had on everyone in attendance. As they left, they knew they had to keep coming back, to continue bringing peace and hope to those who needed it most.

This heartwarming story reminds us that sometimes, the most meaningful moments in life are the ones where we get to make a difference in someone else’s life. The volunteers’ commitment to the children and their families, even in the most difficult of times, is a reminder of the power of human kindness and the hope it brings.
